I am Mengling Qiao (乔梦玲), currently an Associate Research Scientist in the Columbia Water Center, Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Columbia University, working with Prof. Upmanu Lall.
My research focuses on understanding and mitigating risks associated with natural and human-induced hazards, aiming at advancing resilient and sustainable environments through data driven methods. I have broad research interests lying in Urban Geography, Resilient and Sustainable Cities, Human Mobility, GeoHealth, Computational Social Science, and Disaster Planning. Currently, I am focusing on modeling human mobility patterns in disaster events, sensing the sentiment changes of general population in the post-pandemic era, and modeling relationships between social-environmental factors and crime rates.
